Frequency is often confused with count since it also involves counting the number of occurrences of the behavior; however, the difference is that frequency looks at the number of occurrences of the behavior over the amount of time observed. Frequency is the number of responses per unit of time resulting from combining observation time and count [[Cooper.etal2019*]]. The observer may report the target behavior about how often it occurs per second, minute, hour, etc. This allows for better analysis of the data compared to count alone. [[Diaz.Claudio2019*]] Behaviors that are tracked using frequency should have a clear beginning and end. **Advantages & Disadvantages** An advantage of collecting frequency data is that it makes the count measure more meaningful. A disadvantage of collecting frequency data is that the difficulty or complexity of the behavior can affect the accuracy of the data collection. ___ ___ ##### **NEXT LESSON** [[Duration]] ##### **PREVIOUS LESSON** [[Count]] ___ ___ **Return to RBT Curriculum Outline** [[0_RBT Curriculum Outline]] ___ #RBT/Curriculum #aba/measurement/continuous/frequency_rate
